God Will Bring Them Back.

God Will Bring Them Back.

1 John 1:9 (ESV)
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Revert – return to. I heard this word when I was watching a documentary about Muslim girls in america and how they were finding life being so visible in America. One of the girls in the documentary did not look Muslim and then she talked about how she was a revert to the religion. She then explained that Muslims don’t say convert, they say revert because they believe that they are not converting but returning to Allah (Allah translates to God.) This struck me because that’s what I was starting to realise about Christianity, that those who belong to God return to Him. I had listened to two testimonies that really spoke to me about this. These testimonies and mine combined made me realise that once God is in your life you can go on to live a lawless life but when you get to the end of your sin and the beginning of God you are not converting to Christianity you are returning back to God.

Today in church the pastor was speaking about the first church. But he started the service by speaking about how in England (not sure if he said the U.K.) 95% of children do not know God or have a connection to church (something along those lines.) He then spoke about how in the past most people would have at least one person in their family who was connected to a church. Most people’s connection would be their grandma and she would be praying for them. But we no longer have that now for a lot of reasons, different religions, family situations, ethnic diversity, fear of the Bible, the list can go on and on.

The church that I attend partnered with a couple of churches in the city to create a weekly club for young children in order for the church to reach more lives. (15 years ago.) This club brings children together who would otherwise never encounter church in they way that this club does it. We have religious education in schools but that does not actually teach us the word of God in the same way as church would do. We watched a little video showing us what happens in the club and it just seemed like a great thing that the church had decided to be a part of. The young children are hearing the Bible each week, learning what those life stories say regardless of whether or not they end up finding out about God for themselves. A seed has been planted in their lives, truth is being spoken into their lives and if they fall away from God because of their Saturday spent at Kidz Klub they will always have God as their foundation.

Pastor ended the service by asking us to pray for family, friends etc. who we wanted to return to or to get to know God. And in my own prayers as I have been doing for a little while now, I have asked God to return family members to the knowledge of His word, who He is and what He says about us. (I pray Hosea 14 and I replace Israel with my family’s last name.) I pray Hosea 14 because I believe that it covers a lot of the reasons why we sometimes leave God for the world, but it also speaks about God’s blessings for those who return. “4. ‘I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them.” Sometimes in our prayers we tend to speak negatively about people because we see the things that we don’t like and then we ask God to remove that when we should just be asking God to forgive our sins. This is a little snippet of what Hosea 14 says…

Hosea 14 Hosea 14 (NIVUK)
Repentance to bring blessing
14 Return, Israel, to the Lord your God.
Your sins have been your downfall!
2 Take words with you
and return to the Lord.
Say to him:
‘Forgive all our sins
and receive us graciously,
that we may offer the fruit of our lips…

This service really showed me the importance of planting a God seed in people’s lives. They may not then water that seed and start living for God but when there is a seed there eventually those who have strayed will return to God. I am definitely what Muslims would call a revert. I have reverted back to God and all of the truth that was planted within me when I was a child came back to show me that the world was telling me a lie. Start praying the word of God over your life and your loved ones lives. God is waiting to receive us back into His arms.

God moves when we pray, if you have loved ones who you would like to see return to God. Pray for them; ask God to intervene. That His truth comes back into their hearts, that they stop believing the lies that are in the world.
