The Importance Of Reading The Bible.

Romans 15:4 (ESV)
4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

19/08/19 | OK so I was planning on re-posting this blog post but somehow it isn’t on my blog, it must have been sacrificed somewhere along the way. So I will be sharing it as a new post.

A lot of things that I have been hearing and reading online lately have shown me that we need to read the Bible or we will be lead astray like the many generations that have gone before us. Worse we will create new denominations that are far worse than the ones that have come before us. We enter a new decade in a few months time and if you are someone who can honestly say you believe everything that you are told is Biblically true and sound but have never stopped to ask God to guide you through his word I encourage you to take this time to read the Bible to get to know who God says he is and to know him better.

Let’s dive into the words that I wrote a few years ago…

Nice & Kind?

Nice & Kind?

Galatians 5:22-26 (NIV UK)

Life by the Spirit

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

NIV: forbearance| NKJV: longsuffering | AMP: patience | ESV: patience

NICE | giving pleasure or satisfaction; pleasant or attractive.
GOOD | to be desired or approved of. / having the required qualities; of a high standard. / possessing or displaying moral virtue.
KIND | having or showing a friendly, generous, and considerate nature. Archaic -affectionate or loving.

I saw this tweet a few months ago and it really struck me because of the simplicity in what she wrote. This made me realise that we as Christians are chasing niceness when the one thing that is a fruit of the spirit is kindness. Jesus did not tell us to be nice to our neighbour, he told us to love our neighbour. The slick nature of language has caused us to think that nice and kind are one and the same when they are actually very different from each other.

Jesus does not expect us to be nice, but he sure does expect us to be kind.

This tweet and post is for those struggling with reconciling with the “mean Christians” label. The bible does not tell us to be nice, it tells us that a fruit of the spirit is kindness.

I know that the one thing that you probably hear over and over is how Christians are the meanest people, they are not nice at all. Do you or they place that label of meanness on those who are not of the Christian faith? I’m sure they don’t. We are not striving to be nice or liked, we are striving to live life evidenced through the fruits that we produce and the fruits that are produced within us. One of those fruits is kindness not niceness.

We are not called to be nice. We are called to be kind, but kindness is a journey that involves so many other aspects of the fruit of the spirit.
Are you telling me that you could be kind to someone [a racist] without love or self-control?

Chase Kindness not niceness.

Thank You For Reading & God Bless

Why I Unfollowed …. On Instagram

Why I Unfollowed Christians On Social Media.

Matthew 6:22 NIV UK)

22 ‘The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[a] your whole body will be full of light.

13/08/19 | My relationship with social media is temperamental at best. I haven’t used Facebook in years after battling years of deactivating and reactivating it, following and unfollowing people on the site. I deleted my twitter account when I realised that my presence on that site was not needed. The only social media that I have an account on is Instagram and Pinterest if you count that.

I deactivate my Instagram account when I feel as though the pressure from that website is too much for me to keep up with and allow into my heart. When I became a Christian and was using the site I followed a lot of Christians; from famous churches to those who I found via other social media platforms. I did it because I thought I need to cleanse my social media and only have faith building things on there.

God Is Good, All The Time & …

God Is Good, All The Time;

& All The Time, God Is Good!

Psalm 145:9-12 (NIV UK)

The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.

The Lord is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, Lord;
    your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
    and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendour of your kingdom.

21/7/19 | These past few months I’ve been saying “I believe in God,” and a combination of other words such as “but I don’t know how to move forward with my belief,” I haven’t been able to put my finger on the meaning behind this sentence until I read the above tweet.

There is no doubt that God is real in my life simply because I have experienced too much to deny that he is real. From the personal encounters to simple things like looking at the beauty of the sky, I know that God is real!

I realised that I believe he is God but didn’t believe that he is good! Better I struggled to believe that he is good in all circumstances not just the ones we have biblical examples for (questions and answers.) Our faith doesn’t lie in the belief that God is real. Our faith lies in more than the belief that Jesus is The Messiah.

Our trust; faith, hope and love of God is not tested in the “is he real” encounters; it’s tested in the is he good experiences.*

Leave Room For God.

Leave Room For God.

Romans 12:19 (NIV UK)

19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’[a] says the Lord.

Recently I read a tweet that made me realise that I have been struggling with believing that God is good. I will hopefully share the journey to that realisation but that emotional door being opened also made me realise that there are areas that have not been dealt with for a long period of time. If you’re not new to the blog you will have read this post that I wrote last year –False Accusations. Story Time & Advice. For those who did not read it I will give a small run through so that this post makes some sense.

During high school I was accused by someone -who I thought was a friend- of strangling her. When I heard the day and time when I had supposedly done this I thought to myself this will be dealt with quickly because I was in a detention and I had to stay in it until the end of the lunch break. But I was wrong I ended up going through what felt like my own personal hell for a few months. When I wrote this post I thought I had received the resolution that I wanted and needed from this matter because the girl who accused me made another accusation against someone else and it somewhat proved that she was a compulsive liar.

I didn’t realise that there was still pain that hadn’t been dealt with over these years.

Mental Health Awareness Season!

It Was Mental Health Awareness Month!

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV UK)

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Long post alert! Grab a drink….

16/05/19 | It was mental health awareness week or month a short while ago and I began writing this post but never got round to completing it so I decided that I would wait for the season to end before posting these words.

This week or month -where we try to make people aware and a lot kinder and compassionate to those in our communities with mental health issues- can sometimes go by without us thinking about mental health / illness. This year I have noticed a lot of people are speaking about and sharing their own experiences more than previous years. I absolutely believe that awareness is the key to finding permanent solutions to any and all the issues that we face in our society.

*side note on awareness.* During university I remember saying that awareness is where charities should put a lot of their money -regarding cancer research- and I had my opinion shouted down. The reason behind my thoughts on awareness is because with every racial group in society comes cultural differences and opinions. In some cultures the conversation and awareness about cancer is so far ahead of other communities because of things like superstition; stories that have been passed down from generation to generation, conversations not being had etc. We can at times forget that not all racial / cultural groups live the same lifestyles and have the same conversations. I have watched countless news stories, documentaries and TV shows that showed me that awareness is something that still needs to be focused on especially within non white – and western – communities so that people survive instead of dying prematurely. *side note, over*

I have had my own struggles with mental illness -depression; anxiety and I once had a panic attack- my experience has taught me a lot about how fragile we all can be and how when we allow things to go unspoken or untreated they can become far worse than they ever should be.

There Are Children Dying!

There Are Children Dying!

Matthew 7:7-12 (NIV UK)

Ask, seek, knock

‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

‘Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

20/06/19 | I am trying to work out my salvation -with fear and trembling- as well as meditate on the law (/ the whole Bible) to ensure that I am living in God’s will and I am not led astray by things that sound great but have zero substance. I have been thinking a lot about the buzz phrases that we hear in our society that actually do nothing for our relationships and journey with God and people.

This past week something that I prayed for; got an answer to but then it slipped out of my hand made me realise that I was living “religiously” in a way that most of us would not associate with “religious” living. I had become someone who follows the set rules and regulations of our churches -and the outside’s influence of it- that are the complete opposite of everything that God shows us in the Bible. I had specifically been living life allowing the word of the world to affect me. These words have even infiltrated our churches in a way that at first you wouldn’t notice it because people can hide it behind scripture.

Hearing God’s Voice

Hearing God’s Voice.

Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV UK)

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

The Same Room – Ep.4: Hearing God’s Voice (with MAJOR. and Dr. Matthew Stevenson)

Am I emotional right now? YES I AM!

There is a part of this video that really got at my heart.

When I tell you I have been going through it lately and have not understood why. -I tend to say a lot and never fully understand what on earth is going on until I remember that I said something that led me down that road.- I realise lately that religion has been trying to come for the knowledge that I have of who God is, and what they say in that video slapped my heart. A gentle slap! WOW!

Psalm 139

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,’
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

Navigating Social Media; How I Do It.

Navigating Social Media; How I Do It.

Matthew 6:22 (NIV UK)

22 ‘The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[a] your whole body will be full of light.

19/06/19 | I have wanted to share my thoughts on social media; how I navigate it now that I’ve returned to one platform Instagram and what using social media since then has taught me about how to move forward BUT I’ve not had enough about what I wanted to say.

When I became saved and I returned to Instagram I followed so many Christian people; I liked anything and everything to the point where my discover page was filled with Christian related things. Some were good or cute and some were bad. Good; these posts were hearty, challenging and convicting. Cute; they sounded good but had no substance. Bad; they were judgemental. When I deactivated my Instagram account at that point I didn’t really think I would be returning to the platform anytime soon.

BUT guess what…
